5 Big Decorating Trends in 2022 – Innovate and Be Inspired

The (re)decoration of the home or office was certainly one of the wishes that many people made for 2022 while eating raisins at midnight. Now that the year has begun, it’s time to get down to work, so we’re sharing the main trends that will confirm the expression “new year, new life” for spaces where you want to spend unforgettable moments.

There are many ways to do this, with the aim of combining comfort, sustainability, attitude and functionality. The décor wants to be personalized with decorative elements that can either be bought or totally or partially renovated with applications on walls, furniture, ceilings and floors thanks to advances in technology and digital printing materials.

1. Reinforced connection with nature

The connection with nature will be reinforced this new year with the tendency to open the doors and let it in. Not only through the tones associated with earth and wood, but also with a palette of greens and not forgetting the blue of the sky.

Interior spaces are intended to be cozy and serene, with neutral and soft colors, plants, organic shapes and preferably with glazed windows and doors that let in natural light and, where possible, relaxing views.

Each space can represent a “walk” between doors through the natural elements and textures that appear throughout the house, both in decorative pieces and in fabrics, wallpapers and applications on furniture and floors.

2. Sustainable and personalized design

Environmental awareness is also inspiring decorating trends in 2022 and is reflected in the choice of more environmentally friendly furniture, decorative pieces and materials obtained from responsible sources and production methods.

Sustainability meets vintage with the reuse and personalization of old furniture, which will be given a new lease of life once renovated. Larger pieces – including lighting – are preferred in small quantities, but they are impactful and have a lot of personality.

Unique details become part of the wish list when looking for second-hand furniture, as does the possibility of adapting it to the various uses it can be put to, in line with the trend towards multifunctional spaces.

3. Details of vibrant colors and black

While neutral and natural tones are proliferating in the welcoming atmospheres we want to create in the year that is now beginning, vibrant colors and gold are going to carve out their own space in decorative pieces, walls and furniture.

Having a white kitchen has become demodé, giving way to the combination of soft hues and vivid tones on furniture and walls – such as yellow, orange, red, blue or Very Peri lilac, which Pantone® announced as the color of the year – and decorative elements associated with wood and marble.

The bathrooms want to be elegant, with tiles and personalized applications on furniture and walls. Both in these spaces and throughout the house, this touch can be reinforced with black details, for example on taps or mirror frames.

4. Prints and patterns with a lot of style(s)

The mix of styles will take hold in 2022, for example, with the union of the minimalist design of the Japandi style – which mixes Scandinavian and Japanese references – with the trend for partial or total application of color prints and patterns on walls, furniture, ceilings and floors.

Other environments can result from the fusion of patterns inspired by Nature – with floral motifs, foliage, wood and stone – and the 18th century Chinoiserie style and its Asian elements that appeal to the fantastic and the ethereal with their stylized flowers and birds.

The monochrome palette, simple lines and other details that characterize modern design, which emerged at the end of the 19th century and lasted until the mid-20th century, can also contrast with the warm, neutral tones of the retro style that marked the 1970s.
