5 major decorating trends in 2022
Home improvements or remodeling the office was a likely new year resolution that many of us made for 2022 when counting down the minutes until midnight. Now that the year has begun, it's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. We share some trends for the coming year which match the expression "new year, new life" for living and workspaces in which to spend many a memorable moment.
There are many ways of making this happen, to combine comfort, sustainability, attitude, and functionality. Personalized decor using pieces, which can be purchased or refurbished in whole or in part along with walls, furniture, ceilings, and floor applications (decals), thanks to advances in technology and digital printing materials.
1. An enhanced link to nature
The connection with the natural world is enhanced this new year with a tendency to bring nature indoors. All this by using earthy browns and wood, a palette of greens, and infinite hues of sky blue.
Interior spaces are cozy and welcoming, with neutral, soft colors, plants, and organic shapes. All this, preferably, with glazed windows and doors that let in natural lighting and, when possible, relaxing views.
Each space can represent a "passage" between doors imitating natural elements and textures that arise here and there throughout the home, both in decorative pieces, as in fabrics, wallpapers, and applications to furniture and floors.
2. Sustainable and personalized design
Environmental awareness inspires decorating trends in 2022 and reflects in furnishing choices, decorative pieces, more eco-friendly materials obtained through responsible sources and production methods.
Sustainability combines with vintage by giving new life to old furniture through renovation and customization. However, larger pieces – including lighting – are few in quantity but impactful and personality-positive. Unique detail becomes part of the wish list in second-hand furniture.
Modifying furniture and diversifying items meets the trend towards multifunctional spaces.
3. Vibrant color details and black accents
Although the neutral and natural tones replicate in welcoming environments and arise in the new year, vibrant colors and golds will conquer their own spaces in decorative pieces, walls, and furniture.
White kitchens have become démodé, giving way to the combination of soft hues and vibrant tones in furniture and walls - such as yellow, orange, red, blue, or lilac Very Peri, which Pantone® announced as the color of the year - and decorative elements associated with wood and marble.
Bathrooms are elegant, with tiles and custom applications on furniture and walls. In these spaces and throughout the house, this touch can be reinforced with black accents, for example, on taps or mirror frames.
4. Prints and patterns of many styles and much style
A mix of styles will assert itself in 2022, for example, the union of minimalist design of the Japandi style - which mixes Scandinavian and Japanese references – a tendency to apply partial or total color prints and patterns on walls, furniture, ceilings, and floors.
Other environments may result from the fusion of nature-inspired patterns – such as floral motifs, foliage, wood, and stone - and the 18th-century Chinoiserie and its Asian elements that appeal to the fantastical and the ethereal with its stylized flowers and birds.
A monochrome palette, simple lines, and other details characterize modern design, which emerged in the late nineteenth century and lasted until the mid-twentieth century, can also contrast with the warm and neutral tones of retro that marked the 70s.
